Netizens Compare Mara Chairman Asyraf Wajdi To Viral ‘Teach You A Lesson’ Character

Date:

The hit Korean drama Teach You A Lesson continues to capture the attention of Malaysian viewers, sparking widespread discussion on social media over its portrayal of issues involving students, teachers and parents within the education system.

The latest buzz surrounding the series emerged after a social media user compared a key character in the drama, Director Choi Gang Seok, to Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

In a Facebook post, the user said the drama had delivered powerful messages that resonated deeply with audiences despite being a fictional production.

“Even though it’s just a drama, it has had a tremendous impact on all of us,” the user wrote.

The post went on to draw a direct comparison between the fictional education figure and Asyraf Wajdi, stating: “If Korea has Director Choi Gang Seok, Malaysia has Asyraf Wajdi.”

The comparison quickly caught the attention of Asyraf Wajdi himself, who later shared the post on his own Facebook page.

Responding in a light-hearted manner, he admitted that he had also become hooked on the drama and had been staying up late to watch it.

“Goodness, these netizens. I’ve fallen into the drama trap too. I’ve been sleeping late for two nights already and I’m only on episode three,” he wrote.

In the same post, Asyraf Wajdi included the hashtag #YouTouchYouGo, a phrase he frequently uses to emphasise a firm stance against bullying, misconduct and disciplinary issues within educational institutions.

The drama’s growing popularity in Malaysia has fuelled discussions about leadership, discipline and the role of educators, with many viewers drawing parallels between fictional storylines and real-life figures involved in shaping the country’s education landscape.

As Teach You A Lesson continues to trend online, its influence appears to be extending beyond entertainment, generating conversations about values, accountability and reform within schools and educational institutions.
