Rising actor Daniel Fong has opened up about an uncomfortable experience he faced early in his modelling career, when an underwear photoshoot allegedly took a more sexual direction than he had expected.
The 33-year-old actor, who is of Chinese-Mongolian heritage, said he was managed by a China-based company at the time and had agreed to a six-month contract for an underwear modelling assignment.
Although he said there was no sexual touching involved, Daniel admitted that he felt uncomfortable during the shoot.
“The shoot felt very sexual, as I had to try on different types of underwear and was styled in different looks. I felt very uncomfortable, but after being persuaded, I agreed because the management had already arranged a six-month contract,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
Despite the experience, Daniel said he remains open to modelling for established brands, provided professionalism is maintained and the campaign is focused on fashion and health.
He revealed that he had voluntarily modelled underwear for an international brand two years ago as part of a campaign and would consider working with the company again under the right circumstances.
Meanwhile, Daniel has been pursuing acting since 2016 and said he continues to attend workshops and acting classes to sharpen his skills.
He became more active in Malay-language dramas from 2022 and has trained under experienced actors including Pearly Chua and Fauzi Nawawi.
“I believe experience on set is equally important. Every character I play teaches me something new, and I try to use what I learned from one role to improve my next performance,” he said.
Daniel is also set to appear in a new musical drama scheduled to air on Astro Ria in November.
Directed by Imri Nasution, the drama also stars Everett Gomes, Nelysa Kay, Faiz Najib and Alvy Joanna.
Daniel plays Damien, a wealthy man who is deeply devoted to his girlfriend Puteri, played by Nelysa Kay. The pair enter a music competition and eventually form a band with people from different backgrounds, setting the stage for friendship, conflict and a battle for a substantial cash prize.
