Singapore Actor Zong Zijie Fined RM2.7k And Banned From Driving For Speeding At 121kmh

Date:

A 29-year-old actor was fined S$800 (RM2,750) and disqualified from driving for one month after he was found guilty of speeding at 121kmh along a stretch of road where the speed limit is 70kmh.

Zong Zijie, a China national and Singapore permanent resident, pleaded guilty to one charge of speeding after being caught driving 51kmh over the limit along West Coast Highway at about 12.55pm on August 23, 2025.

Court documents stated that Zong is an artiste with Noontalk Media, a Chinese entertainment agency co-founded by actor Dasmond Koh. He first entered the entertainment industry at age 13, making his debut in Mediacorp drama My School Daze in 2009, and has since appeared in productions including Your World In Mine.

During sentencing at the district court on Wednesday, the prosecution sought an $800 fine without a driving ban, noting that Zong had previously committed speeding offences in April 2020, June 2020 and September 2023. However, the judge questioned whether a disqualification order should also be imposed given his repeated violations and the extent of the latest offence.

The prosecutor said he would leave the decision to the court, while Zong, who was not represented by a lawyer, initially offered no mitigation. When prompted, he admitted he had been rushing on the day of the offence and accepted responsibility for exceeding the speed limit.

He also appealed against a driving ban, saying his work requires frequent travel and that suspension would cause inconvenience.

In response, District Judge Shawn Ho stressed that driving carries responsibility and warned against speeding on public roads.

For speeding offences, Zong could have faced a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to S$1,000, or both.
