US President Donald Trump has said he is aware that Amazon.com is reportedly considering a reboot of his long-running reality show The Apprentice, with suggestions that his eldest son could take over as host.
Speaking on April 30, Trump acknowledged the reports when asked about the potential revival. “Well, I’ve been hearing it,” he said, noting the original show’s success. “Look, we had a great success – 14 seasons – and The Apprentice was a tremendous success.”
He added that discussions about the possible reboot were still informal. “We’ll see what happens. Yeah, they told me about it. We’ll see,” Trump said, without specifying who had shared the information with him.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Amazon is in early-stage talks about reviving the programme, citing sources familiar with the discussions. The report said executives have considered Donald Trump Jr. as a potential host, although no formal approach has been made to the Trump family and the plans remain preliminary.
Commenting on his son, Trump said, “He’s a good guy. Got a little charisma going. You need a little charisma for that.”
If approved, the reboot would be released on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.
Trump originally rose to national prominence as the host of NBC’s The Apprentice, a business-themed reality series where contestants competed for a job working under him. He later hosted a spin-off, The Celebrity Apprentice, further cementing his public profile.
The potential reboot also highlights Amazon’s existing ties to the Trump family. The company’s MGM Studios previously distributed the documentary Melania, focusing on First Lady Melania Trump, which was promoted through a high-profile premiere at the Kennedy Center and other promotional events.
