Sarawak will allocate RM107 million next year to upgrade sports facilities as part of its preparations for the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the move forms part of the state’s long-term strategy to strengthen readiness for national and regional sporting events.
“Upgrades and preparations of venues and sports facilities will begin in 2026 to ensure Sarawak is ready to host the SEA Games 2027,” he said while presenting the Sarawak 2026 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
Abang Johari revealed that 11 sports facilities have been designated as official venues for the championship. These include Sarawak Stadium, Stadium Perpaduan, the Lawn Bowl Centre, Sarawak Cricket Field, Squash Centre, Shooting Range, Wushu Training Centre, Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, and the Archery Range.
“For this purpose, RM107 million will be allocated next year,” he added. In addition, another RM54 million will be provided for the construction and enhancement of other sports complexes and facilities across the state.
“This effort not only ensures high-quality venues for the SEA Games but also improves Sarawak’s sports infrastructure for long-term benefits,” he said.
