Motorists will pay more for unsubsidised fuel this week, with the retail prices of RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 rising by 20 sen per litre, while unsubsidised diesel increases by 15 sen.
The new prices will apply from Sept 24 to Sept 30, 2026, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
Under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), the new prices are:
- RON97: RM5.05 per litre, up 20 sen
- RON95 (unsubsidised): RM4.57 per litre, up 20 sen
- Diesel (unsubsidised): RM5.42 per litre, up 15 sen
MoF said the continued shortage of refined petroleum products has kept market prices elevated.
It said disruptions to refined petroleum production in Russia, one of the world’s major diesel exporters, had further tightened global supply.
Diesel exports from West Asia also fell by more than 50% between March and August 2026, adding further pressure to prices.
MoF said a recovery in global refining capacity would be important to ease refined petroleum prices, while the restoration of petroleum flows through the Strait of Hormuz could help reduce pressure on crude oil and refined fuel prices.
However, geopolitical uncertainty is expected to continue affecting fuel price volatility in the medium term, with conflict risks also significantly increasing oil shipping costs.
Subsidised Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged
Despite the increase in unsubsidised fuel prices, subsidised fuel rates will remain unchanged:
- RON95 (BUDI95): RM1.99 per litre
- Diesel (BUDI Diesel): RM2.10 per litre
- RON95 under SKPS: RM2.05 per litre
- Diesel under SKDS: RM2.15 per litre
Through BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel, eligible Malaysians can continue purchasing subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to the applicable monthly eligibility limits.
MoF said the country’s fuel supply remains sufficient for now but urged consumers to use fuel responsibly.
