A 12-year-old girl has died after her hair became trapped in a swimming pool’s suction system, leaving her stuck underwater for several minutes.
The victim, identified as Laura Pereira Camargo, was swimming with friends at a private pool in Mirassol, Brazil, when the tragic incident occurred.
Reports said she was trapped underwater for around five minutes before being pulled out of the pool in critical condition.
Emergency services were called immediately, and Laura was rushed to a local clinic before being transferred to a specialist children’s hospital in São José do Rio Preto.
Despite medical efforts to save her, doctors were unable to revive her condition. She later suffered multiple organ failure and complications, including bacterial pneumonia.
The incident took place on April 17, and she died two days later in hospital.
The tragedy has deeply shocked the local community, with family members and friends paying tribute to the young girl, who was described as much-loved by those around her.
Her funeral was scheduled to take place shortly after her passing.
The case comes amid other similar drowning-related accidents involving children abroad, including incidents linked to suction systems in pools and hot tubs, raising renewed concerns over safety standards in recreational facilities.
