A young e-hailing rider who had been tirelessly working to save for his wedding next year was killed when a tree suddenly collapsed onto him in Melaka on Saturday.
The victim, Muhammad Izzat Daanish Sharil, 22, had been balancing a full-time job while doing Grab deliveries part time to build his wedding fund, his sister Izzaty Hamidah Sharil, 27, told Sinar Harian. She said he had just completed his marriage preparation course the week before and was excited to begin planning his ceremony, scheduled for December next year.
Izzaty described her younger brother as hardworking and determined, always refusing to burden the family despite growing up with only one sibling.
The fatal incident occurred at about 2.30pm as Izzat was travelling along Jalan Tun Razak toward Ayer Keroh. While passing the area near the Temenggong Police Apartments in Taman Sentosa, a large tree abruptly toppled over, crashing onto him.
He died at the scene.
The same falling tree also injured two occupants of a Perodua Axia travelling nearby.
Izzaty said the family was still in shock after receiving a call from their mother informing them of the tragedy. She added that they are now seeking legal advice to determine the next steps regarding the incident.
Muhammad Izzat was laid to rest at the Bukit Lantang Islamic Cemetery on Saturday night.
