29-Year-Old Singaporean Causes Scene At Johor Roadblock, Now Faces Jail, Fine, Or Whipping

Date:

A 29-year-old Singaporean woman was arrested after verbally abusing traffic police officers when her car was stopped during a roadblock at the Second Link on the evening of Sept 27.

Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said the woman’s vehicle was stopped at the 3.8km mark of the highway in Gelang Patah at around 8.30pm. Officers found her car’s exhaust system had been illegally modified, and informed her that a Pol 257 summons would be issued.

“The suspect refused to cooperate and hurled abusive words at the officers on duty,” ACP Kumarasan said in a statement on Sept 28.

She is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, an offence punishable by up to two years’ jail, a fine of RM10,000 (S$3,064), or both. She also faces investigation under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using insulting words, which carries a maximum fine of RM100.

In addition, police said she is under investigation for violating Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/62, as she did not have valid documents to remain in Malaysia. The offence carries penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or whipping of up to six strokes, or any two of these punishments.

ACP Kumarasan reminded the public to always cooperate with law enforcement during inspections. He added that police are committed to maintaining public safety and urged anyone with information on criminal activity to contact the nearest police station, the Iskandar Puteri district control centre at 07-5113622, or the hotline at 07-5114486.
