A four-year-old girl has died after being left inside a parked car in Khon Kaen, in what authorities believe was a tragic case of accidental suffocation.
Police from Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station were alerted to the incident at about 2.30pm on April 28 at a home in the Thepharak 5 Community. Responding officers, along with rescue personnel, found the child unresponsive inside a family car parked outside the house.
The girl’s 34-year-old mother told investigators she had promised to take her daughter on a trip and had left her playing alone earlier in the day. She initially assumed the child had gone to her grandmother’s house, but later discovered her unconscious in the vehicle. Despite attempts to administer first aid, the child could not be revived.
CCTV footage reviewed by police showed the girl entering the car by herself through the driver’s side door before closing it. Authorities believe she remained inside the vehicle for an extended period, leading to oxygen deprivation.
Police are currently recording statements from family members, while a post-mortem examination has been ordered to confirm the exact cause of death. Investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely supervise young children, warning that such incidents can happen quickly and with devastating consequences.
