Google is testing a new AI-powered search feature on YouTube that allows users to interact with results in a more conversational format.
The experimental feature, called “Ask YouTube,” generates an AI-style results page that combines text summaries with curated video content, including long-form videos and Shorts. It is currently available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States who are aged 18 and above.
Users who enable the feature will see an “Ask YouTube” option in the search bar, along with suggested prompts such as clip recommendations, topic summaries and general informational queries. The system then produces a structured page with AI-generated explanations and related video suggestions.
In some cases, the feature also provides follow-up prompts, allowing users to continue refining their search through additional questions in a chatbot-like interface.
Early testing shows that the tool can deliver quick summaries and relevant video highlights, though occasional inaccuracies have been observed in its responses, highlighting ongoing concerns about reliability in AI-generated content.
YouTube has indicated that the experiment may eventually be expanded to non-Premium users, suggesting it could become a more widely available feature in the future as Google continues to develop its AI search tools.
