77-Year-Old Man Found Dead In Decomposed State Near His Car After Missing For Over A Week

Date:

A 77-year-old man who had been missing for more than a week was found dead in a decomposed state in Sebubok, Batu Niah last night.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO) said in a statement that the body of Chong Nyuk Fan was discovered near the spot where his four-wheel-drive vehicle had been left.

According to PGO, a report on the missing man was received at 9.18 pm. Firefighters and police arrived at the location at 9.44 pm and began a search within a 50-metre radius of the vehicle. Within 20 minutes, the victim was found in tall grass on the roadside in a decomposed condition.

Police reports lodged by his family yesterday stated that Nyuk Fan left his home in Senadin on 14 September in his 4WD without informing them. GPS tracking showed the vehicle travelling from Miri to Belaga on the same day before heading to Batu Niah on 17 September, which was its last detected location.

The vehicle was later found by the roadside without its driver. Family members had tried to locate him in the area but failed, prompting them to file a police report to seek help in finding the elderly man.
