AKPS Seizes 80 Tonnes Of Chicken Wings Worth RM1.5 Million At Sepanggar Port

Date:

The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized four containers filled with chicken wings weighing about 80,000 kilogrammes, estimated to be worth RM1.5 million, at Sepanggar Port.

The seizure was carried out during an inspection operation by AKPS Kota Kinabalu Wharf in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) at about 2.10pm last Wednesday, following initial intelligence received by authorities.

AKPS Kota Kinabalu Wharf Commander, Shahrizan Ibrahim, said inspections revealed that all four containers were carrying large quantities of chicken wings that were inconsistent with the declared documentation. The findings raised suspicions of false declaration involving the shipment.

“Preliminary checks indicate that the goods were believed to have been improperly declared, which is an offence under Section 133(1)(a) and Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967,” he said in a statement.

He added that the operation was also observed by port operators and shipping agents to ensure transparency throughout the inspection process.

Further investigations are ongoing, with enforcement action to be taken under existing laws. AKPS reiterated its commitment to strengthening border control measures to curb trade fraud and smuggling activities at entry points into the country.
