Albert Tei Challenges PM Anwar Over MACC Raid, ‘Explain the CCTV Seizure or Resign’

Date:

Businessman Albert Tei has issued a dramatic seven-day ultimatum to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, demanding explanations tied to fresh charges accusing him of offering bribes in the Sabah mining corruption scandal.

Speaking to reporters after posting RM70,000 bail at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Tei questioned the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s seizure of his home CCTV recordings during a raid on Nov 28.

“That is my home, my right. You forced my wife to delete the video,” he said.
“I want to say this very firmly: if my CCTV is missing, damaged, or deleted, I will take action against MACC down to the last detail.”

The MACC previously denied Tei’s and his wife’s allegations that officers pointed guns at them during the raid. Officers had carried out the operation wearing bulletproof vests and balaclavas, which the MACC said complied with standard procedures.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has also urged for the CCTV recordings to be released to resolve the conflicting accounts.

Tei: ‘Shamsul said Anwar ordered the recording of Sabah politicians’

Tei renewed his claim that former senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Akin told him the prime minister wanted recordings of Sabah politicians implicated in corruption.

“Imagine this — Shamsul was the right-hand man to the prime minister. If I couldn’t trust him, who else could I trust?” said Tei, who now faces four bribery charges involving RM176,830. Shamsul has been charged with receiving the bribes.

Tei insisted he acted after being assured that “Anwar had asked for it,” claiming the videos could be used to pressure or blackmail state representatives for political advantage.

He ended the press conference with chants of “Reformati!” before announcing: “Anwar has seven days to answer my demands. If you fail to respond, you must resign.”

Tei pointed to a “huge mastermind” behind the Sabah mining scandal and questioned whether Anwar had ever been investigated.

“I asked Shamsul if we needed to check with the prime minister. He said the prime minister already told him to do it,” Tei said.

Tei himself had previously released a series of video exposés implicating more than a dozen Sabah politicians linked to Chief Minister Hajiji Noor’s administration.

The businessman also described his arrest as traumatic, alleging that MACC officers broke down his door while pointing weapons at him.

“One officer was masked like a devil. He pointed a gun at me and yelled, ‘Open the door!’ Even though I was already doing it,” he claimed.

Tei said the scenes were reminiscent of Anwar Ibrahim’s infamous 1998 arrest, but insisted his own experience was harsher.

“Anwar wasn’t handcuffed or tied with cable ties. What they did to me was just like what happened to him — only worse.”

In the days before his arrest, Tei had aligned himself with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had famously removed Anwar as his deputy in 1998.
