Anwar Orders Full, Transparent Probe Into Melaka Shooting and Custodial Deaths

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed a full and transparent investigation into the recent police shooting in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, as well as all deaths in police custody nationwide, emphasising that no individual or group will be shielded from scrutiny.

He said the Cabinet fully supports firm police action against criminals and any violations of the law, but stressed that all complaints involving misconduct or procedural breaches must be investigated openly, Bernama reported.

“I have instructed the Inspector-General of Police to carry out investigations in a transparent manner and not to protect anyone.

“We do not protect criminals, but neither do we protect any action—including by police officers—that contravenes the rule of law,” Anwar said after performing Friday prayers with about 1,500 congregants at Masjid Cyberjaya 10.

Anwar’s directive comes amid heightened public attention on police-involved incidents, reinforcing the government’s stance on accountability, integrity, and adherence to legal procedures.

The shooting in Durian Tunggal on November 24 resulted in the deaths of three suspects, whose families have since lodged complaints questioning police conduct. Federal police have taken over the investigation to ensure neutrality, transparency, and professionalism.
