Baby Girl, 9 Months Old, Dies In Four-Car Crash In Terengganu

Date:

A nine-month-old baby girl was killed in a tragic four-vehicle accident at Kilometer 79 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu–Kota Bharu, near Kampung Bukit Grebar, on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Nur Athiya Inara Isnorizal, succumbed to severe head injuries while receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu.

Setiu District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris, said initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred around 10.27 a.m. when a Perodua Axia driven by the baby’s father, Isnorizal Ismail, 25, lost control and crashed into the rear of another Perodua Axia that had stopped to make a right turn.

“The impact caused both vehicles to spin before being hit by an oncoming Honda Accord from the opposite direction. The Honda Accord then skidded to the left side of the road and collided with another Honda Accord parked on the shoulder,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The baby, along with her parents, were rushed to Setiu Hospital for treatment before she was transferred to HSNZ for further care.

“However, the baby was pronounced dead at 8.09 p.m. while being treated in the emergency zone of HSNZ,” Mohd Zain said.

Her body was later sent to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for further action.

A post-mortem revealed the cause of death as severe traumatic brain injury with hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
