Badminton Coach Fined RM3,000 For Bribing Police Officer

Date:

A 45-year-old badminton coach, Lim Chon Shia, was ordered by the Sessions Court here to pay a RM3,000 fine today after pleading guilty to offering a RM55 bribe to a police corporal in May 2022.

Judge Datuk Nu’aman Mahmud Zuhudi ruled that Lim would face three months’ imprisonment if he failed to settle the fine, which the coach promptly paid.

The charge stated that Lim handed cash to the officer as an inducement to avoid legal action for driving without a valid licence.

The incident occurred at Jalan Guar Nangka, Arau, around 10.45am on May 28, 2022, and Lim was charged under Section 214 of the Penal Code.

The case was prosecuted by MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Atikah Ab Rashid and S. Sujatha, while Lim was represented by Mohd Hapiz Rajali from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
