A harrowing incident unfolded in Samarahan, Sarawak, after a blind elderly woman spent several days beside her daughter’s decomposing body before crawling through the jungle to seek help.
The case occurred in a remote area near Kampung Tambey, where the deceased woman, in her 30s, is believed to have died suddenly inside their small hut about six days ago. The mother and daughter lived in isolation, depending on government aid for their daily needs. Their hut’s location, far from the main road, made access extremely difficult.
With no one nearby to assist her, the blind mother remained beside her daughter’s body. As the decomposition set in, she decided to seek help. Using only her sense of touch, she crawled through the dense jungle for nearly two days, eventually reaching a roadside at around 6am on December 5.
Passersby alerted authorities, and police officers, along with the Civil Defence Force (APM), trekked into the jungle to recover the body, which had entered an advanced state of decomposition. The remains were transported to the hospital mortuary.
APM members also brought the elderly mother to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment following her ordeal.
