Breathing Trouble After Chemical Spill – 11 Workers Hospitalized

Eleven workers at a factory in Bandar Proton City, Tanjong Malim experienced breathing difficulties and eye irritation after being exposed to a chemical spill involving isocyanate earlier today.

Perak Acting Deputy Fire and Rescue Operations Director Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said nine firefighters and officers from Tanjong Malim Fire Station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2:42 pm.

“Investigations found the leak occurred in the piping system, causing about 15 liters of the chemical to spill. All affected workers were sent to a nearby clinic before the fire team arrived,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the operations leader coordinated with the Hazmat team for guidance and cleanup procedures. The leak was successfully contained, and the affected area was cleaned using sand. Cleanup and spill control efforts are still ongoing at the site.
