Man Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Metal Screw Caps Trap Genitals For A Month

Date:

A 38-year-old man in Vietnam’s An Giang province suffered a rare and severe medical emergency after reportedly fastening two metal screw caps onto his penis, enduring the condition for about a month before finally seeking treatment.

According to Vietnamese media reports, including Znews, the man was transferred to Can Tho Central General Hospital on April 27 after developing significant swelling, deformity, and visible injury to his genitals.

Doctors said the patient admitted to inserting the two metal caps roughly one month earlier. Despite the serious condition, he was still able to urinate, which delayed him from seeking medical help.

Medical staff confirmed that the metal caps, each about 3cm in diameter and 1cm thick, were tightly constricting the organ at two separate points near its base. Due to the severity of the constriction and the prolonged duration, standard removal methods were ineffective.

Doctors were ultimately forced to use a handheld cutting tool to saw through the metal and remove the objects safely.

By the time of treatment, the patient’s genital tissue had already developed ulceration, bleeding, and signs of partial tissue necrosis caused by prolonged pressure and restricted blood flow.

Following emergency intervention, doctors reported that his condition has since stabilised and is improving, with expectations that he will be discharged within days.

The unusual case has drawn widespread attention in Vietnam due to its severity and rarity in clinical practice.
