Brown University Shooter Found Dead After Campus Attack, Self-Inflicted Gunshot Suspected

Date:

The suspected shooter involved in the Brown University attack has been found dead, according to reports. Authorities believe the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Associated Press reported.

A man was discovered dead in a New Hampshire storage facility on the evening of Thursday, December 18, sources familiar with the matter told AP. Both sources spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation.

The suspect was previously wanted after a shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island on December 13, which left two people dead and multiple others injured. Shots were fired in a classroom shortly after 4 p.m., and the attacker fled on foot, sparking a 10-hour manhunt.

Investigators noted the engineering building where the shooting occurred has few surveillance cameras. The suspect reportedly entered and exited via a door facing a residential street, which may explain the lack of clear footage.

Authorities are also investigating a possible link between the Brown University shooting and the fatal shooting of Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro at his Brookline home earlier this week. Loureiro, who joined MIT in 2016, led the Plasma Science and Fusion Center and was originally from Portugal.

Retired FBI expert Katherine Schweit noted that in many high-profile attacks, shooters often die by suicide or are captured, though when they escape, investigations can take days. Authorities have not officially confirmed a connection between the two incidents.
