Malaysia’s QR Code Immigration System Lets Travelers Clear Passport Control in 7 Seconds!

Date:

Malaysia’s introduction of QR code technology for immigration clearance at entry and exit points has significantly reduced congestion and improved operational efficiency, allowing passengers to clear immigration in as little as five to seven seconds.

Implemented at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2, the system has proven especially effective during peak travel periods and festive seasons, easing queues and streamlining passenger flow. A Bernama survey found that travelers using the MyBorderPass app with QR codes experienced shorter waiting times and a more organised process compared with traditional manual or autogate clearance methods.

Seventy-two-year-old Tan Choo Lan shared that the QR code system saved her significant time, eliminating the need to queue or take out her passport. “I always use QR codes because I can keep my passport safely in my bag, which is more convenient and secure,” she said.

Pilot Alif Rahim, 40, highlighted the system’s benefits for flight crews, noting that it sped up departures and ensured smoother operations, particularly during busy periods. “The QR code application is very efficient and makes travel easier for tourists as well,” he added.

Traveler Mohd Safri Azman said the system provided a faster, less crowded experience, allowing him and his family to avoid long lines while travelling to Vietnam. “It is very convenient and fast,” he commented.

Introduced earlier this year, the QR code initiative aims to reduce travel inconvenience and congestion at Malaysia’s entry points, providing a smoother and more efficient experience. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized that the system is designed to offer Malaysians a faster, seamless travel process.
