Chinese Man Blows RM6.6 Million Lottery Win on Live-Streamer But Gives Wife Nothing

Date:

A man from eastern China has become the talk of mainland social media after it was revealed he blew nearly all of his 10 million yuan (RM6.6 million) lottery winnings on a female live-streamer — while giving nothing to his wife.

His wife, surnamed Yuan, told Henan TV that her husband’s betrayal drove her to file for divorce. The couple, from Dezhou in Shandong province, had been married since 2016. Yuan said her husband won the jackpot worth 10.17 million yuan (after tax 8.14 million yuan) last December. At first, he seemed overjoyed to share the good news, even handing her a bank card he claimed contained three million yuan (RM1.98 million) for their future. Out of trust, Yuan never checked the account — only to later discover it was empty.

Soon after the win, her husband’s behavior took a dark turn. He began gambling during the day and spending nights watching and tipping female live-streamers. One of them reportedly received 1.2 million yuan (RM792,000) in gifts, and in July, he even took her on a four-day getaway — only to be caught by Yuan at a railway station. Screenshots of their chats showed the man calling the woman “honey” and referring to himself as “hubby.”

“I gave everything to this marriage,” Yuan said tearfully. “Before he won the lottery, I thought we’d be together forever. But he betrayed me in an instant. I really wish he never won that prize.”

When confronted, the husband simply told reporters, “I’ve spent all the money. She’s suing for divorce. Let the court decide.”

A legal expert later explained that winnings acquired during marriage are considered joint assets. If a spouse squanders large sums on immoral relationships, the other party can demand that the funds be recovered.

Online, netizens called the case “a lottery curse,” with one comment summing it up bluntly — “He didn’t win the jackpot. He lost his marriage.”
