Cross-Border Gambling Syndicate Suspect Extradited From Thailand To China In RM300 Million Case

Date:

Chinese authorities have dismantled a major cross-border online gambling syndicate following the extradition of a key suspect from Thailand with the assistance of local authorities.

According to CCTV News, the main suspect, surnamed Huang, who is linked to a case involving transactions exceeding 500 million yuan (approximately RM300 million), was brought back to China by Tianjin police on April 29.

Investigators said Huang allegedly operated a criminal organisation in Cambodia between September 2022 and June 2023, where an illegal online betting platform known as “Wanhe Football” was set up.

The group is believed to have used high-profit incentives to recruit agents and gamblers across mainland China, operating a multi-level structure to expand its network and attract more users.

Authorities stated that the syndicate’s total illegal funds exceeded 500 million yuan during its operation.

Following a formal request from Chinese law enforcement, Thai authorities approved Huang’s extradition in February this year. Tianjin police confirmed that further investigation into the case is now underway.
