Zus Coffee has voiced strong support for its barista who was attacked by a woman — believed to be a tourist — in an incident that has since gone viral.
In a statement shared on social media, the popular Malaysian coffee chain said it had conducted a thorough investigation and was standing firmly behind its “Zurista”, pledging zero tolerance for abuse against its staff.
Zus Coffee also urged the public to respect the employee’s privacy and avoid sharing or reposting the video showing her identity without consent.
The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace, saying it “does not tolerate any form of disrespectful behaviour” towards employees or customers.
The incident reportedly occurred when a tourist shouted at a barista at one of Zus Coffee’s outlets before throwing her drink at the counter and the employee. She was later asked to leave the premises.
The video sparked widespread outrage online, with many netizens applauding Zus Coffee for its swift and fair response.
Facebook user David TC Hng commented, “Keep up the fair treatment. It is only right to do so.”
Another, Hafiz Kamarudin, praised the company’s values, writing, “I’ve always admired how Zus Coffee cares for its staff. I hope they continue to protect their dignity, safety, and well-being.”
Many social media users have also urged the barista to lodge a police report over the incident.
