The defence in the RM2.8 million corruption trial involving actress Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad concluded its case on Thursday after she completed her testimony as the second defence witness.
Her lawyer, Datuk Seri K. Kumaraendran, informed Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad of the decision. The court has scheduled April 24 for the prosecution to submit its written arguments, with the defence’s reply due by May 8, followed by oral submissions on May 18.
Zizie Izette, widow of former Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, faces three charges of abetting her late husband in connection with a RM150 million investment in Public Mutual Berhad unit trust funds. Bung Moktar was acquitted of related corruption charges on January 16 after the prosecution decided not to proceed following his death on December 5, 2025.
The couple began their defence on September 2, 2025, after failing to overturn a Court of Appeal ruling from November 18, 2024, which had reinstated the case following a High Court acquittal in September 2023. The Sessions Court had originally ordered them to enter their defence on September 2, 2022 after establishing a prima facie case.
For the first charge, Zizie Izette is accused of abetting Bung Moktar in obtaining a RM2.2 million cash bribe from Public Mutual agent Madhi Abdul Hamid, allegedly to secure ministerial approval for FELCRA Berhad to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual products.
The second and third charges involve her abetting Bung Moktar to receive RM262,500 and RM337,500 from agents Madhi and Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar through investment accounts registered under her name.
All offences are alleged to have occurred at a Public Bank Berhad branch in Taman Melawati on June 12 and June 19, 2015. The charges are framed under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries up to 20 years’ imprisonment and fines of not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000 upon conviction.
