Selangor Government Issues Urgent Warning Against Open Burning

Date:

The Selangor government has issued a strong warning against open burning amid the current hot, dry weather, highlighting the dangers of fires spreading rapidly.

State Public Health and Environment Committee chairperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin emphasised that careless burning not only harms the environment but also poses serious threats to public health and safety. She urged residents to report any burning activities immediately to authorities to allow for swift intervention.

The alert comes after a forested hillside in Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, erupted in flames yesterday, covering roughly 37 acres. Firefighters from multiple stations—including Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala, and Subang Jaya—worked throughout the night to bring the blaze under control.

Operations concluded at 3.48 am today, with no casualties or structural damage reported. Officials confirmed the fire occurred outside the permanent forest reserve.

Jamaliah praised the fire department’s dedication and tireless effort in quickly containing the situation, preventing further escalation. She added that the state government will continue collaborating with relevant agencies to strengthen monitoring and preventive measures against future open burning incidents.
