Diners Discover Squirming Maggots in Hotpot, Staff Call It ‘Protein’

Date:

Recently in Guiyang, a woman surnamed Chen and her colleagues were shocked to discover five to six live maggots wriggling in their dipping sauce while dining at a conveyor-belt hotpot restaurant. When the incident was reported, the restaurant initially dismissed the complaint, claiming the maggots were “protein.”

According to Baixing Guancha, the incident occurred on the afternoon of August 11 at a hotpot restaurant in the Zhongshan West Road underground mall. Just as Chen and her colleagues were about to enjoy their meal, they noticed the wriggling maggots, causing immediate nausea. Chen reportedly rushed to the restroom to vomit.

When Chen confronted the restaurant staff, they treated the matter lightly and refused to issue an immediate apology. Initially, the restaurant offered only 100 yuan in compensation, which Chen found unacceptable.

Later, accompanied by a reporter, Chen returned to the restaurant, where the manager, Ms. Yu, apologized to Chen and her colleagues. After negotiations, both parties reached an agreement: the restaurant would compensate Chen 500 yuan and promised to strengthen hygiene measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
