Driver Arrested After Alleged Road Rage Attack On Motorcyclist In Kulai

Date:

A male driver has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a motorcyclist during a road rage incident at Bulatan Lebuh Putra Utama in Bandar Putra, Kulai on Thursday.

Kulai District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee, said the incident occurred at about 5.45pm while the 37-year-old victim was on his way to work in Singapore.

He said police received a report following the circulation of a social media post showing a man being assaulted by another individual using his bare hands.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect was driving recklessly and had suddenly changed lanes, almost hitting the motorcyclist.

The situation escalated after the victim reportedly knocked on the suspect’s car window, which allegedly angered the driver.

“The suspect then stopped his vehicle abruptly in front of the motorcyclist in the middle of the roundabout, causing the motorcycle to brake suddenly,” he said.

The driver then allegedly got out of the car, kicked the motorcycle until it fell, and punched the victim on the head and body before other road users intervened to break up the fight.

The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries following the incident.

Acting on information, police later arrested the suspect at his residence in Senai at about 11.30pm the following day.

The suspect has been remanded for four days from April 5 to April 8 to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving, Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 for criminal intimidation, and Section 427 for mischief.

Police have urged the public not to speculate on the case to avoid disrupting investigations.
