Driver Dies, Wife Seriously Hurt After MPV Crashes Into Palm Oil Trailer In Kulai

A man was killed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) he was travelling in collided with a trailer carrying palm oil along Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi near the Felda Taib Andak junction on Thursday.

The victim, identified as 56-year-old Zamri Mohamed, was driving a Mitsubishi Xpander during the incident. His wife, Azizah Abd. Samad, 55, sustained serious injuries.

According to Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Fauzi Che Idris, the Kulai Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call regarding the accident at around 3.23pm.

A total of nine firefighters were dispatched to the scene following reports of a crash involving a 30-tonne Fuso trailer loaded with palm oil and the Mitsubishi Xpander.

“Upon arrival, the operations team found that the driver of the Mitsubishi Xpander was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.

The trailer driver escaped unharmed in the collision.

Firefighters later carried out rescue operations to extricate the victim from the wrecked vehicle before concluding the operation at around 5pm.

Fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles continue to raise concerns among road users, especially along major routes frequently used by commercial transport vehicles.
