Swapped Babies Returned To Mothers After Hospital Ward Incident

Date:

An incident involving the accidental swapping of babies at a ward in Hospital Tunku Azizah has been resolved, with the infants safely returned to their respective mothers.

Hospital director Shamsul Anuar Kamarudin said immediate corrective measures were taken as soon as the matter was discovered.

In a statement issued today, he said the hospital had also provided explanations and the necessary support to the affected families following the incident, which recently drew public attention on social media.

“Initial reviews found that no breastfeeding procedures or medical treatment affecting the safety of the babies took place throughout the duration of the incident,” he said.

Shamsul Anuar added that the hospital understood the concerns raised by the public after details of the case circulated online.

“In response, the hospital immediately acted according to established procedures while ensuring that the safety and welfare of the babies involved remained the top priority,” he explained.

The hospital is now conducting an internal investigation to determine the cause of the mix-up and identify improvements that can be made to existing work procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

He also said HTA would strengthen its internal control measures in an effort to enhance public confidence in the services provided by the hospital.

“HTA remains committed to ensuring patient safety is always prioritised and greatly appreciates the cooperation and understanding shown by all parties,” he added.

The case has sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens calling for stricter verification procedures in maternity wards to avoid future mistakes involving newborns.
