Two drivers have come under fire online after allegedly overtaking at a school crossing and running a red light while a security guard was helping pupils cross the road.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, is believed to have taken place outside a school in Desa Pandan, although the exact date remains unclear.
In the footage, traffic lights could be seen changing from amber to red as a school security guard stood near the zebra crossing preparing to escort primary school pupils across the road.
Moments later, a car was seen entering the opposite lane before allegedly running the red light and driving past the crossing.
Shortly after, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was also seen attempting to move through the junction despite the red light.
The security guard then walked to the middle of the zebra crossing and instructed the SUV driver to stop to allow a pupil to cross safely.
However, after the child reached the other side of the road, the SUV driver allegedly attempted to continue driving through the crossing before being stopped again by the guard.
The vehicle eventually returned to its original lane after the traffic light turned green.
The video triggered widespread criticism online, with many netizens condemning the drivers’ reckless behaviour and accusing them of endangering children.
Several social media users stressed that motorists should exercise extra caution near schools, slow down around pedestrian crossings, and obey traffic rules, especially when children are present.
Some also questioned why the drivers could not wait for a few minutes instead of risking the safety of students.
