Drug Suspect Arrested After Attacking Police With Machete In Gombak Raid

Date:

A police raid targeting a suspected drug dealer in Jalan Ulu Yam, Batu Caves turned tense after the suspect allegedly attacked officers with a machete while attempting to escape on Monday.

Gombak district police chief Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the incident occurred at around 4.30pm when a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Gombak district police headquarters carried out an operation to arrest a man believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities.

“The suspect is believed to have attempted to flee and acted aggressively by attacking police personnel with a machete before he was successfully detained at the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Following further inspection, police seized a 57-centimetre sharp weapon along with suspected heroin weighing 18.90 grammes and syabu weighing 7.40 grammes.

Authorities said the arrest highlights the growing risks faced by enforcement officers during anti-drug operations, especially when suspects resort to violence to avoid detention.

Noor Ariffin said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Friday to assist in further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 186 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

Members of the public with information related to the case have been urged to contact investigating officer Inspector S Prakash at 012-2940827 or the Gombak district police headquarters operations room at 03-61262222.
