A 75-year-old factory bus driver and his 10 passengers were injured early this morning when the vehicle skidded off KM48 of Jalan Johor Baru–Mersing and landed on its side.
The bus, en route to Kota Tinggi, veered off the road at approximately 6.15am. All 11 occupants, including the elderly driver, were rushed to the emergency unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment.
District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. “Initial findings indicate that the bus driver lost control before the vehicle skidded,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses driving without due care or reasonable consideration for other road users. Conviction under this section carries a fine of RM5,000 to RM10,000, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both, and requires immediate licence cancellation.
Police have urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact the investigation officer, Muhammad Danial Syafiq Azahari, at 016-873 8498.
