A facilitator has been arrested to assist in the investigation of a sexual assault case involving four sixth-grade male students during a motivation camp at a camp in Kampung Genting on the night of October 12.
Southwest District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, said the 33-year-old man was taken into custody at his home in Sungai Petani at 9pm on Wednesday.
He added that the suspect, who is married with two children, was arrested following a police report lodged by the victims’ school principal at Bagan Serai Police Station, Perak, on the same day.
“All the victims are primary school students from the Kerian district in Perak. They had come to the camp here to attend a motivation program,” Sazalee said.
The suspect is believed to have molested the boys while they were sleeping in the camp dormitory.
Following the incident, the victims reported the matter to their school principal, who then informed their parents. After discussions with the parents, the principal decided to file a police report.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting today until October 21 to assist in the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
