A fire broke out late this morning at a factory in the Muara Tabuan Light Industrial Park, prompting an immediate response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). A distress call was received at 10.58am, and a total of 34 firefighters from three stations – Tabuan Jaya, Padungan, and Batu Lintang – were deployed to the scene to control the blaze.
According to Bomba, the fire originated from a container that had been converted into temporary workers’ quarters and quickly spread to the rear structure of a nearby factory. The affected structure has suffered approximately 60 per cent damage. Firefighters are currently working to create firebreaks to prevent the flames from spreading further.
Efforts to extinguish the fire have been hampered by the zinc walls of the factory, which have made access and containment more challenging.
