Mystery Nasi Lemak Left Nightly At Strairs Revealed As Teen’s Quiet Act Of Kindness

Date:

A teenage boy’s quiet nightly routine of leaving a packet of nasi lemak on an apartment staircase has captured attention after the true reason behind his actions was revealed.

The story was shared on TikTok by user @mrd_2512, who documented the unusual habit that had sparked curiosity and speculation among residents of the block.

According to the post, a neatly packed nasi lemak would appear at the corner of the seventh-floor staircase every night at exactly 10pm, with no note or explanation. The mystery led some residents to assume it was an act of charity, while others speculated more negatively, even linking it to supernatural beliefs.

The truth came to light when a long-time resident, known as Mak Cik Timah, decided to investigate by waiting behind the emergency exit door one night.

At precisely 10pm, she saw a boy, believed to be around 14 years old, quietly approach the staircase. Still dressed in his school uniform and carrying a worn backpack, he placed the food on the steps, glanced around, and began to leave before being stopped.

When questioned, the boy explained that he had been leaving the meals for an elderly man who lived on the rooftop of the building.

He shared that the man had once bought him food when he was hungry and had no money at a mamak shop, asking only that he pass on the kindness to others when he was older.

The boy said he chose to do it discreetly because the elderly man did not want to be pitied by others.

By the following day, the entire block had learned the story. However, something unexpected happened — instead of just one food packet, there were now two. Within a week, the number grew to four, with residents also leaving bottled water, fruits and even blankets.

All contributions were made anonymously.

A few days later, the elderly man came down to the surau at the ground floor, where he was greeted warmly by residents. Overwhelmed, he was seen in tears as people treated him like family.

The story has since resonated widely online, with many noting how a single act of kindness can inspire a ripple effect throughout a community.
