A Form Five student pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday to causing serious injury to a 10-year-old boy by kicking him in the face until the victim suffered a fractured jaw.
The 17-year-old accused entered the guilty plea before Magistrate Arun Noval Dass after the charge was read out under Section 325 of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment and a possible fine upon conviction.
According to the charge, the teenager kicked the victim, a Year Four pupil, in the jaw during an incident at a playground in Tongkang Pechah at around 9pm on May 15.
Based on the police report, the child later returned home and informed his mother that he had been assaulted by the accused.
The victim was then taken to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, where medical examinations confirmed that the boy had suffered a broken jaw.
Police investigations found that before the incident, the victim had leaned his bicycle against a hut near the accused.
However, the bicycle reportedly fell and hit the teenager’s leg, causing him to become angry before allegedly kicking the boy, who fell to the ground bleeding from the mouth.
The prosecution was handled by Inspector Hasniza Che Ibrahim, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
The court fixed July 1 for further mention pending a social report from the Department of Social Welfare, along with sentencing-related submissions and orders.
Pending the next court date, the teenager was allowed bail of RM1,500.
