Police discovered the decomposing body of a 78-year-old man while responding to a report of a foul smell emanating from a terrace house in Kuantan.
Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said the victim, a bachelor who lived alone, was found slumped on a chair in the living room of his home in Taman Sri Inderapura at about 7.30pm.
“A neighbour alerted the police after noticing a strong foul odour coming from the house. Upon arrival, officers found the front door locked and were forced to break it open,” he said in a statement today.
According to the neighbour, the man had lived in the house for more than 30 years and was last seen approximately five days before the discovery.
Ashari added that several medications found near the body were confirmed by medical personnel to be for the treatment of high blood pressure, heart disease, cholesterol and prostate cancer.
“Investigations indicate that the death was due to illness and showed no signs of criminal involvement. The case has been classified as a sudden death,” he said.
The body has been sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for further procedures, and police are currently working to locate the deceased’s next of kin.
