A newly opened shopping mall in Henan, China, has suffered a serious accident after a large section of its skylight glass suddenly shattered, sending shards raining down onto visitors attending a cosplay event.
The incident reportedly occurred on the afternoon of April 4 at the Aegean Shopping Center in Shangqiu, which had only been operating for around two months. A group of cosplayers was performing in the atrium at the time, drawing a large crowd of spectators.

Footage circulating online shows glass fragments suddenly falling from above during a stage performance, prompting panic as attendees looked up and tried to shield themselves before quickly fleeing the area. Several cosplayers and visitors were struck and injured in the incident.
After the accident, the atrium floor was seen covered in broken glass and bloodstains. Security personnel and staff evacuated the crowd and carried out cleanup operations.
One injured visitor said she suffered cuts to her hand and thigh from falling glass and later received medical treatment and compensation from the mall.
Local authorities confirmed that emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, while multiple departments, including housing and construction regulators, have launched investigations into the cause of the incident and possible construction quality issues.
