A gold shop in Ladkrabang, Bangkok, has gone viral after revealing that a seemingly ordinary item purchased for just RM38 was later confirmed to be genuine 18K gold and valued at more than RM125,000.
Wit Ladkrabang Gold Shop, which deals in all types of gold, shared the case on its Facebook page, describing the discovery as a “lucky break” comparable to winning the lottery. The shop said even the customer was surprised and delighted by the unexpected valuation.
According to the post, a customer initially brought in a bag purchased from a Japanese second-hand warehouse for only RM38. At first, there was uncertainty over whether the item contained real gold, but upon inspection, the shop confirmed it was authentic 18K gold, marked with a “K18” stamp.
Following verification, the customer decided to sell the item, with the shop estimating that the melted gold could fetch over RM125,000. Another small piece of gold, reportedly bought for just RM13, was also included in the valuation process.
The shop demonstrated the testing and melting process in a video, using a purity meter to assess the gold content and provide an estimated market value. The melting procedure reportedly takes around seven minutes, allowing customers to receive immediate pricing confirmation.
The gold bag itself reportedly carried no brand markings, leading the shop to suggest it could be a custom-made item. The store has since invited the public and experts to provide any information regarding its origin, as interest in the unusual discovery continues to grow online.
