Hope Place has extended vital support to a 14-year-old boy who is paralysed and bedridden by providing him with special milk supplement powder crucial for his daily nutritional needs.
Representatives from the welfare NGO recently visited the family at Kampung Sungai Bandung.
“Although unable to move or speak, the boy remains conscious and somewhat aware of his surroundings. Doctors have diagnosed him with traumatic brain injury (TBI),” Hope Place said in a statement on Saturday.
The teenager, who depends on a suction machine and is fed via a tube, lives with his parents and two younger siblings aged five and nine. His mother, 40, recounted that the accident took place in March while he was travelling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle on the way to the mosque for Friday prayers.
His father, 48, works as a daily-wage construction worker, while his mother is a housewife.
According to the NGO, the family has been making adjustments to cope with the boy’s condition, including renovating their modest home to fit a hospital bed and install the necessary medical equipment.
The teenager currently receives RM500 in monthly welfare aid and has previously been given a one-off financial contribution from Tabung Baitumal Sarawak.
Hope Place also expressed appreciation to Serian Hospital for informing them of the case and called on the public to support their efforts.
“We welcome all donations to help more underprivileged individuals and will provide receipts upon request,” the NGO said.
Those wishing to contribute may do so via Hope Place’s Maybank account (511289001160) or through the S Pay Global QR code available on its Facebook page. For further enquiries, contact 082-505 987 or 013-567 2775.
