Kedah has become the latest state to be affected by Northeast Monsoon floods, following Kelantan and Terengganu, with a total of 2,112 people evacuated to temporary relief centres in the three states as of this morning.
According to the Kedah State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), 225 flood victims from 66 families in Kulim have been relocated to three relief centres: Al-Muhtadin Sungai Seluang Mosque, Naga Lilit KEDA Surau, and SK Permatang Tok Dik. The affected areas include Sungai Seluang, with victims from Kampung Siam, Kampung Bukit Sarang Ayam, Kampung Paya Serdang, Kampung Titi Tok Aris, and Kampung Padang Cina.
In Kelantan, the number of flood victims has surged to 1,623 today compared to 1,170 last night, following several days of continuous heavy rainfall in Kota Bharu, Tumpat, and Bachok. The Social Welfare Department’s InfoBencana portal reported that 12 relief centres are currently operating in these districts, including SK Sering, SK Raja Sakti, SK Tapang, SK Parang Puting, SK Islah, SK Seribong, SK Sabak, SK Seri Tumpat 2, SK Pengkalan Kubor 2, SK Sembilan Pauh, SK Jelawat, and SK Pa’Pura.
In Terengganu, the flood situation has slightly improved, with fewer evacuees compared to last night. A total of 264 residents from 87 families from Kampung Baru, Pulau Redang remain at the Kampung Pulau Redang Mosque relief centre in Kuala Nerus, down from 276 previously.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong wind warning for several areas across seven states until 1pm today. Affected areas include parts of Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, and several districts in Sabah, namely Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Sandakan, and Kudat.
Authorities urge residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders where necessary.
