Date:

A 67-year-old man identified only as N has been detained for allegedly murdering his wife, 56-year-old Harsalena, at their home in Perumahan Bintan Permata Indah, Jalan Ganet, Tanjungpinang, on Wednesday night.

The case is being investigated by the Tanjungpinang District Police under the supervision of the Riau Islands Regional Police General Criminal Investigation Department.

Alleged Motive Linked To Insults

According to Riau Islands Police General Criminal Investigation Director, Kombes Pol Ronni Bonic, the suspect allegedly acted out of resentment after repeatedly being mocked by the victim over his physical appearance. He was reportedly taunted with remarks describing him as “fat” and “ugly”, which police believe fuelled his anger.

Investigators said the suspect is accused of striking the victim on the head with a piece of wood before stabbing her with a machete.

Confession To Children

Police revealed that the couple’s child returned home after hearing a commotion and argument. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly admitted to killing their mother. He is also said to have placed part of the victim’s body into a sack, leaving other parts inside the house.

The child reportedly screamed for help before lodging a police report, prompting officers to move in and apprehend the suspect.

Prior Criminal Record

Authorities further disclosed that the suspect has a previous conviction for murder. He was released from Tanjungpinang Prison in August 2025 after serving time for the killing of a former girlfriend.

Police suspect the latest incident may have been premeditated. The investigation remains ongoing as officers gather further evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
