The Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) seized a luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) belonging to a former Malaysia national football team player during a special enforcement operation in Kuala Lumpur early Sunday morning.
JPJ deputy director-general (Planning and Operations) Jazmanie Shafawi said the seizure was carried out under Ops Luxury after officers detected three offences during an inspection.
According to him, the former footballer was stopped while driving a Toyota Vellfire in the Bukit Bintang area at around 4am.
Investigations found that the vehicle’s road tax and insurance coverage had expired since December last year.
Authorities also discovered that the individual’s driving licence had expired as well.
Speaking during a press conference at the JPJ Kuala Lumpur impound depot, Jazmanie revealed that enforcement officers also seized a luxury Mercedes-Benz AMG Brabus G-Wagon belonging to a well-known motivational speaker carrying the title “Datuk”.
The SUV was reportedly confiscated after checks found it had no valid insurance coverage, while the owner had also failed to renew the vehicle’s road tax amounting to RM3,221 since May 4, 2026.
Jazmanie disclosed that JPJ has recorded a total of 1,814 luxury vehicle seizures involving multiple high-end brands since last year.
Among the cases detected, a Porsche 911 Turbo recorded the highest outstanding road tax payment amounting to RM16,067.
Meanwhile, a Bentley was found to have gone the longest period without renewing its road tax, dating back to 2023.
Out of the total seizures, 899 were recorded in 2025 while another 915 seizures were carried out this year involving various luxury brands, including Lamborghini models found operating without valid road tax.
JPJ stressed that failure to renew vehicle road tax is a serious offence under the Road Transport Act 1987.
The department warned that driving vehicles without valid road tax and insurance not only violates the law but also exposes owners and other road users to serious risks if accidents occur.
JPJ added that enforcement efforts would continue to be strengthened through both on-ground monitoring and digital tracking systems to ensure vehicle owners comply with regulations.
Luxury vehicle owners were also urged to immediately check and renew their road tax through official JPJ channels including the MyJPJ application and the MySikap portal.
