A man’s unusual behaviour of refuelling twice within an hour and a half at the same petrol station in Kampung Laut has led authorities to uncover suspected petrol smuggling activities.
The activity involving a Mitsubishi Pajero was detected following checks carried out by enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) after surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Kelantan KPDN deputy director Aswadi Jaafar said monitoring conducted together with the Marine Police Force revealed that the vehicle made two separate fuel purchases at around 8.05am and 9.36am at the same station.
Following further action, enforcement teams carried out a raid and inspected the vehicle, discovering a modified fuel tank fitted with a larger hose believed to be used to store larger quantities of petrol.
Authorities also seized approximately 90 litres of suspected RON95 petrol along with two fuel purchase receipts from the vehicle.
KPDN subsequently inspected the petrol station itself over suspected breaches of controlled goods regulations, particularly rules prohibiting repeated sales of RON95 petrol to the same vehicle on the same day.
Several documents including the Controlled Scheduled Goods Retail Licence, Petroleum Development Act permits, Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) records, local council licences, stock books and sales receipts were also seized to assist investigations.
The total value of seized items, including the vehicle, was estimated at RM10,361.80.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
