Lecturer Killed After Motorcycle Collides With Turning Car In Ipoh

Date:

A lecturer from Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here on Saturday.

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Sarafuddin Alang Osman, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the accident occurred at about 10am and involved a Perodua Myvi driven by an 89-year-old local man and a Benelli Napoleon 500 motorcycle.

Initial investigations revealed that the car was travelling from Ipoh towards Jalan Pinji Seni 5 before the driver allegedly made a right turn into a junction.

At the same time, the motorcycle, which was approaching from the opposite direction, crashed into the front left section of the vehicle.

The impact left the motorcyclist with critical injuries. His body was later taken to the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for a post-mortem examination.

Police said the post-mortem confirmed that the cause of death was multiple injuries sustained in the road accident.

The car driver was unhurt. Both vehicles have been seized and sent for inspection at Puspakom as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are also seeking independent witnesses and dashcam footage to assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Meanwhile, PUO confirmed in a Facebook post that the victim served as a lecturer in the Department of Naval Engineering, describing his passing as a significant loss to the institution and its community.
