A tragic road accident on Jalan Raya Barat on Sunday claimed the life of a local motorcyclist after he was struck by a vehicle operated by a driver found to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, confirmed that the fatal incident, which involved a motorcycle and two passenger cars, occurred at approximately 11:40 am. The crash has sparked significant concern online after images of the scene went viral on social media platforms.
Initial investigations suggest that a Honda City, driven by a Malaysian man in his 20s, was travelling at high speeds and in a hazardous manner while heading towards Bandar Klang. Upon reaching the location of the incident, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake several vehicles in front of him. During this dangerous manoeuvre, the suspect entered the opposite lane, leading to a violent head-on collision with the oncoming motorcycle.
The impact of the crash caused the victim, a local man in his 30s, to be thrown from his motorcycle and land on a Perodua Myvi. Emergency responders confirmed that the motorcyclist died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. Following the collision, the driver of the Honda City underwent mandatory screening, which yielded positive results for both alcohol and narcotics, leading to his immediate arrest.
The suspect is currently being held to facilitate further investigations and is scheduled for a remand hearing. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence causing death. If convicted, the offender faces a prison sentence of between 10 to 15 years, a fine ranging from RM50,000 to RM100,000, and an immediate suspension of their driving licence.
Additionally, the police are investigating the matter under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum of two years in prison, along with a period of supervision. Assistant Commissioner Lim urged any witnesses or members of the public with relevant information to contact the investigating officer to assist with the ongoing legal process. He reminded road users that driving under the influence remains a grave offence that carries severe legal and life-altering consequences.
