Akmal Saleh: No One Has The Power To ‘Bury’ UMNO

Date:

No individual or political group has the power to determine the future of UMNO, as the party’s fate ultimately rests in the hands of the people and the will of God, according to UMNO Youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

Akmal said all parties should respect the democratic process and avoid acting as though they have the authority to decide whether the party survives politically.

“Want to bury UMNO? We should not go beyond the power of ALLAH. Let the people decide, we do our best and leave the rest to God,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

He also suggested that if certain quarters were truly determined to see UMNO sidelined, then perhaps the party should reconsider its position within the Unity Government.

“Since they are so eager to bury UMNO, maybe it is time for UMNO to just leave the Unity Government,” he added.

Akmal was responding to reactions from several parties following Barisan Nasional’s (BN) announcement that it plans to contest all Johor state assembly seats in the next state election.

Previously, reports stated that Pakatan Harapan (PH) Johor was determined to defeat BN in the upcoming Johor state election after the coalition announced plans to move independently.

PH Johor chairman Aminolhuda Hassan reportedly said such a goal was achievable, pointing out that PH had previously won as many as 38 state seats in Johor.

In the same Facebook post, Akmal questioned why certain groups appeared upset over BN’s decision to contest all seats, saying they should instead welcome the opportunity to compete for more constituencies as previously desired.

“When BN announced plans to contest all Johor state seats, suddenly their side became the most emotional,” he said.

The latest exchange reflects growing political tension ahead of the next Johor state election, with both BN and PH expected to intensify preparations as speculation over seat allocations and alliances continues to grow.
