A 75-year-old Thai man was killed on Friday afternoon after being struck by a Malaysian-registered car that veered off the road in southern Thailand, police reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 5.40pm in Ban Ton Teen Ped village, Phatthalung province, according to investigators from Srinakarin Police Station, as reported by Khaosod.
The vehicle involved was a Honda sedan driven by 36-year-old Malaysian national Ahmadnatmt Btnsazale, who was travelling with his family at the time.
Initial investigations suggest that the car lost control, swerved into the left lane, and hit the victim, who was standing by the roadside near his home. The victim, identified as Prapol Dam-am, was thrown into a roadside drainage ditch by the impact and pronounced dead at the scene.
Dashcam footage from a vehicle behind the Honda reportedly showed the sedan drifting out of its lane before the collision. Police said the manner of driving was consistent with the possibility that the driver had fallen asleep prior to the crash.
Authorities added that the driver appeared visibly shaken and in shock following the incident.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the case will be handled in accordance with legal procedures.
